A Three Game Lead With Four To Play: The Detroit Tigers Take The Fail Crown From The Mets

A seven game lead with seventeen to play should be safe.  The Mets proved in 2007 that it’s not.

A three game lead with four to play should also be safe, and even more surprisingly than the Mets collapse two years ago, the Detroit Tigers lost in extra innings tonight, completing the worst collapse in Major League history.

What does this mean for Mets fans?

Not much…

It means when the words baseball and collapse are used in the same sentence, perhaps the Mets won’t be the first team mentioned.

A small victory in an year full of losses.

The one game playoff game was one of the most entertaining games I’ve watched for a very long time.  Both the Tigers and the Twins fought hard, and both teams’ fan bases should be proud of the efforts they put in.

It was a game of punch and counter punch, where outstanding defensive plays and clutch pitching were king.

It made me wish the Mets were playing October baseball.  Since this past season was “unacceptable”, maybe we can expect some October baseball next year.

Coming soon… 2009 Report Cards for each Mets player.
