At the end of the award voting, I decided that since the Baseball Bloggers Alliance had come along so quickly, it might be nice to get an idea of who was actually in the group. To that end, I’m working through the roster and asking ten questions of each member. The first five are standard, while the last five are a little more personalized. Hopefully this will help us get a feel for our fellow members. So, here’s entry twelve in a recurring series.

BBA #9
Question 1: How and why did you get into blogging?
I’m a professional writer and I needed an outlet to vent about my all-time favorite team. I started in 2003 and haven’t stopped.
Question 2: Do you have any blogging projects planned for the off-season?
No, between my day job, winter vacation travels and moving into a new apartment, I’ll be lucky to keep up my goal of posting every weekday.
Question 3: What’s been your most enjoyable experience as a blogger (particularly well-received post, a high-profile link, a connection you wouldn’t have had otherwise, etc.)?
I’ve gotten recognition in a couple national outlets as a top Giants-related blogger. I’ve been interviewed on local San Francisco radio, too. That was fun. I’ve also gotten to meet a few really nice people, both fellow bloggers or readers — one guy ended up joining my adult-league baseball team!
Question 4: How did you find out about the BBA and what attracted you to the group?
I believe Daniel recruited me.
Question 5: What do you want to see out of the BBA in the coming year?
No answer
Question 6: How enjoyable is it to see Tim Lincecum every fifth day?
It’s amazing. I imagine it must be what Mets fans felt when Dwight Gooden came up, or Sox fans about the young Roger Clemens.
Question 7: What is the best thing about going to Giant games?
I love the park, which I prefer to call Mays Field. Even when the fog is whipping through on a cold July night, it’s a pleasure to be on the waterfront in that incredible setting. The other best thing is that with a rotation that includes Lincecum, Cain, and Sanchez, there’s always a chance of seeing a no-hitter. How funny is it that Sanchez was the first and only so far to do so!
Question 8: What was the most surprising part of this past season for you?
I wasn’t very surprised by the outstanding pitching. We all knew that was a big possibility. I guess the biggest surprise was Pablo Sandoval. We hoped he would be good, and he turned out great, even a fringe MVP candidate, and he didn’t embarrass himself at third base. The minor surprise of the year was Juan Uribe: Nice comeback year for a genuinely nice guy (according to all the reports).
Question 9: What do you think people around the country don’t know about the Giant organization and their fans?
There’s a perception of SF fans being fair-weather, or soft, somehow. Not true. Dare to wear Dodger blue in the bleachers at Mays Field, and you’re in for a rough night.
Question 10: With the hiring of Mark McGwire as hitting coach in St. Louis, do you think the door is cracked for the return, in some form, of Barry Bonds?
Hmm. Interesting question. I think if Barry wanted to come back to the Giants as a goodwill ambassador, the team would be willing to talk. This is strictly my guess. Barry himself has said in the past he doesn’t want to be a coach, but man, what an incredible store of knowledge he could provide. Would he be a good teacher? Who knows. As for Bonds returning as a player, forget it. It’s not going to happen. I would love to see him come back to the organization, though. Whatever anyone thinks of Bonds, understand this: the previous generation of ballplayers had amphetamines — a performance enhancing drug if there ever was one — freely at their disposal in the clubhouse, so any talk of Bonds or McGwire’s records being tainted can only be discussed in context of the “greenie” era also tainting records. /Soapbox rant.
