Get To Know The BBA: PIMC-Braves Blog
Posted by Cardinal70 on 22 Jan 2010 | Atlanta Braves, BBA News

At the end of the award voting, I decided that since the Baseball Bloggers Alliance had come along so quickly, it might be nice to get an idea of who was actually in the group. To that end, I’m working through the roster and asking ten questions of each member. The first five are standard, while the last five are a little more personalized. Hopefully this will help us get a feel for our fellow members. So, here’s entry sixteen in a recurring series.

Question 1: How and why did you get into blogging?

To be completely honest, I began a general sports blog about three and a half years ago to pass the time at work. It was the summer, which was our slowest time of the year and I figured if I had to sit at my desk for seven hours I should have something to do. About a year and a half later I began my Braves blog and the rest is history.

Question 2: Do you have any blogging projects planned for the off-season?

I don’t have anything big planned for the off season. Generally I like to do a little off season rewind/preview before spring training but otherwise nothing big.

Question 3: What’s been your most enjoyable experience as a blogger (particularly well-received post, a high-profile link, a connection you wouldn’t have had otherwise, etc.)?

I really love blogging about my travels. I am one of those people who hopes to one day visit every single baseball park in the country and I love writing my “Things I learned” posts that document those travels. (For my Braves blog specifically I usually do a “Musings” post that does the same thing.) It’s a great way to re-live my travels and I actually like looking back at them a few months later and thinking, “Oh yeah, that was a great play or that was a neat feature of that Stadium.” These posts tend to be some of my most read posts.

In addition, one of the cooler moments I’ve had as a blogger was opening up the local paper (The Newark Star Ledger) and seeing something I had written about the New York Giants during their Super Bowl run in 2008 in print.

Question 4: How did you find out about the BBA and what attracted you to the group?

I received an email inviting me to join and I thought “That’s a very cool idea and I would love to join it. “ It’s always great to meet other bloggers, especially those who blog about a specific team because they are so passionate.

Question 5: What do you want to see out of the BBA in the coming year?

Maybe a little more synergy between blogs.

Question 6: What, exactly, is PIMC?

My original intention for PIMC – Braves Blog was to be something casual and fun. I already had my general sports blog running which I tended to update a couple of times a day. I really just wanted a place to write about what happened last night at the Park or any big news happening in the organization and give my opinion. But it has evolved to include my trips around the country to see the Braves and sometimes special posts about a certain player.

Question 7: We have three Braves bloggers, so is there an active and connected Atlanta blogging community?

I am sure there is, but I am not involved.

Question 8: Which Brave is your all-time favorite?

My favorite all time Brave is John Smoltz. He was the only member of the Braves to play for all 14 straight Division champion teams and has also been a player willing to do whatever it took to help the Braves win. Whether it was upping his game in the playoffs or smoothly transitioning from starter to closer back to starter, he has been an integral part of the Braves success.

Question 9: What did you think about Chip Carey being signed to do Brave broadcasts?

I don’t mind it. I always found him to be much more comfortable in the Braves broadcast booth than when he was doing National games with TBS. I don’t know if this is because he used to do some broadcasts with his dad or because he felt more comfortable covering a team he was more knowledgeable about, but whatever it was, I thought he was completely competent in that capacity.

Question 10: Has it been strange the last few years to not have October baseball after such a long run?

It sucks that’s for sure. To live and work in New York and watch the Mets in 2006 and then the Yankees in 2009 have successful runs into the playoffs, it becomes that much more frustrating. After winning 14 straight, you have certain expectations and those have not been met since 2005. So I guess you can say I have began to learn what it feels like to root for pretty much every other team in the league. However, I think the Braves took a step in the right direction in 2009 so maybe that frustration will finally go away. Isn’t that the greatest part about Opening Day? They all start with a clean slate.
