At the end of the award voting, I decided that since the Baseball Bloggers Alliance had come along so quickly, it might be nice to get an idea of who was actually in the group. To that end, I’m working through the roster and asking ten questions of each member. The first five are standard, while the last five are a little more personalized. Hopefully this will help us get a feel for our fellow members. So, here’s entry twenty-seven in a recurring series.

BBA #41
Personal info: I’m 40, Work as a Lead Sales Support Specialist for a shelving and storage manufacturer, I’ve been married for almost 3 years, and I have 3 beautiful stepdaughters (18, 16 and 12), 3 cats, 10 fish and a tropical shrimp. I have a degree in theatre, and direct plays for community theatres, as well as one of the local universities…:-)
Question 1: How and why did you get into blogging?
My boyfriend (now husband) is a web developer, and he was setting up a bunch of blogs and asked me if I wanted to write one on the Red Sox, since I was pretty knowledgeable about the team. And I have always been thinking about writing a book, so I figured that blogging was the next best thing…So in May 2006, Boston Red Thoughts was born.
Question 2: Do you have any blogging projects planned for the off-season?
Not really. It’s such a challenge to find relevant content to talk about in the offseason, that most of my blogging energy goes to that. It’s also the time I catch up on all the projects that go by the wayside during baseball season…
Question 3: What’s been your most enjoyable experience as a blogger (particularly well-received post, a high-profile link, a connection you wouldn’t have had otherwise, etc.)?
I would have to say the amazing people I have met–people that I would have never met otherwise. There are so many very talented fellow bloggers out there–a lot of them I am proud to call friend.
Question 4: How did you find out about the BBA and what attracted you to the group?
I was contacted by you about joining, and I thought belonging to a group of bloggers from all the different teams would be a great experience, not to mention a great opportunity to expand my horizons to other aspects of baseball.
Question 5: What do you want to see out of the BBA in the coming year?
More interaction during the season, maybe some back and forth between blogs. I know we are all busy with our own thing, but if we can offer help, experience, and advice to each other, we can only get better…
Question 6: Are there many other female Red Sox bloggers?
There are quite a few, and some of the ones I follow are: Laura, from Laura and the Red Sox–great writer–been following her for years. There is also Victoria, a fellow red head who is one of the Captains of Red Sox Kid Nation, and Tex from Don’t Mess with Tex. There were some teenage girls who blogged for a while, but I am sure as they got older, life got in the way…:-)
Question 7: How often do you go to Fenway?
I try to get there at least once a year, although, with all the stuff going on this summer, I am not sure I will get there this year.
Question 8: Who is your favorite player on the current squad?
Mike Lowell–But I dont think he’ll be there much longer…:-( Besides him, I would have to say Tim Wakefield–there isn’t a better teammate in all of baseball…
Question 9: Has it been hard to change the mindset from cursed to favorite?
Not really, as I never bought into the whole “Cursed” mentality–while there were times that I felt that the only luck the Red Sox were ever going to have was bad luck–I have been watching baseball long enough to know that just about anything could happen. And looking back, even though I nearly lost my mind during the 2004 ALCS (I still watch “the slide” with my heart pounding, fearing that, this time, Dave Roberts is going to get called out and its going to be all over…) I don’t think there was a better way for the Sox to shake off 86 years of disappointment and angst that what happened…
And frankly, growing up deep in the heart of Yankee land–I was oh so grateful for the peace and quiet winning 2 World Series since 2004 has brought to my life.
Question 10: Do you have a deep and abiding hatred of the Yankees?
Actually, it’s more nausea than actual hate. I am born of a mixed marriage–my mom was a scream-at-the-TV-Yankee-fan, and my dad is a Cleveland Indian Fan–So I grew up with baseball in my house. And growing up watching the arrogance of both the players, and a good number of their fans, completely turned me off to the Yankees. It’s amazing to me than there are so many fans who think that because a baseball team they follow wins alot–that makes them a superior human being. And from my perspective, living where I do, I have only really seen this behaviour with Yankee fans. And if you are going to be a fan–be a fan for a better reason than “they win all the time”.
Fortunately, the ‘rents took my sister and I to Fenway Park when I was 13, and my love for the Boston Red Sox began there–and the rest, as they say, is history…:-)
