Happy birthday, Hammerin’ Hank

Happy birthday, Hammerin’ Hank
Posted by Ron Kaplan on 5 Feb 2010 | General Baseball

The man considered by more than a few to be the “real” all-time home run king turns 76 today.

At the risk of appearing lazy (I prefer to consider it “recycling”) here’s a link to last year’s birthday tribute to Hammerin’ Hank with a list of books about the Hall of Fame slugger.

Howard Bryant’s The Last Hero: A Life of Henry Aaron (Pantheon), will be published in May. I think it’s cool to have bios on two of the game’s all-time greats coming out at the same time. How cool would it have been to have Aaron and Mays collaborate, a la Bob Gibson and Reggie Jackson in Sixty Feet Six Inches?

By the way, there’s another biography on a famous slugger due out on this spring: Roger Maris: Baseball’s Reluctant Hero, by Thomas Calvin (Touchstone).
