The Padres would have to jump at the chance to acquire Gordom Beckham
Jake Peavy approached White Sox general manager Kenny Williams last week in hopes that he could sway the free wheeling GM to pry Adrian Gonzalez away from the Padres. Adrian Gonzalez is the crown jewel of the Padres line up. A two-time all star, Adrian also picked up his second gold glove at the conclusion of the 2009 season. Gonzalez is Teixeira west, his numbers are similar and when you move him out of Petco, and provide some protection, you could see numbers even greater than Tex.
After the Blockbuster deal that sent Jake Peavy to the White Sox and netted the Padres four young arms on July 31st, the White Sox system took a hit. GM Kenny Williams is known for trading away prospect for proven talent; the Peavy trade was no exception. As the news came across that the White Sox may be throwing their hat in to the Adrian Gonzalez sweepstakes it made me think, do the White Sox have anything left after three trades that sent five of the top six (ranked by Baseball America) prospects in the White Sox system elsewhere?
I thought we would take a look:
