So how did you spend your SuperBowl Sunday?  Me…I avoided the computer, only to emerge from a Twitter and Facebook-less evening to discover Ozzie Guillen spent his night eating JELL-O.
Tony Arnoldine spent his night checking out what you should have been reading.
Andy Pettitte’s Hall of Fame candidacy is up for debate, but Big League Stew’s Alex Remington thinks Mike Mussina should get in well before the recently retired lefty.

SuperBowl XLV Tweet of the Night

SuperBowl XLV Tweet of the Night
General Baseball | 6 Feb 2011

I purposely stayed away from social media tonight because, frankly, I don’t care that you like (or don’t like) the Packers (or Steelers) or think Ben Roethlisberger is a rapist (or not).
BUT…when I re-emerged from a Facebook and Twitter-less night, I was greeted with the best tweet I’ve seen in a while.
Maybe forever.
So, without a doubt, I’m naming it the “SuperBowl XLV Tweet of the Night”…and it came from (naturally) Chicago …

"The Beards back on twitter…..Lets Rage!!!!!!!!"
General Baseball | 6 Feb 2011

And with that…San Francisco Giants reliever Brian Wilson is back on Twitter.
This past Wednesday, with the World Series trophy in hand…Wilson reportedly visited Twitter headquarters in San Francisco and activated @BrianWilson38.
Within hours…”The Beard” had 4000 followers.
As of Saturday night, he had surpassed 23,000.
According to The San Francisco Chronicle, Wilson’s ended his previous venture on Twitter in April 2009 after implying he was partying all night.
The next afternoon, he blew a save opportunity.
Controversy …

Deion Sanders to Enter Cooperst, er…Canton
General Baseball | 5 Feb 2011

Not that long ago, The Hall broke down some current pro football players that had also been selected in the MLB draft.
While the two sports have seen their fair share of two-sport stars, one player can now puff his chest out a little more than the rest, instead of just boasting (or in the case of THIS VIDEO…rapping) about it.
Why?
Because Saturday night, professional “jack of all trades” Deion Sanders has been elected into …

Tim Lincecum is Looking Rather Debonair

Tim Lincecum is Looking Rather Debonair
General Baseball | 5 Feb 2011

As if San Francisco Giants ace Tim Lincecum needed any more of an advantage…he’s trying to harness the most awesome power he can.
By growing a mustache.
“I started growing it about a month ago and this is all I’ve got,” the two-time Cy Young Award winner said of his upper lip accoutrement.  “It’s kind of sad, but true.”
Sure, “The Freak” has a long way to go to match some of the mustached …

Vladimir Guerrero Settles on Baltimore
General Baseball | 5 Feb 2011

The move had been rumored for a while, so when it was announced Friday that plans were in place for the Baltimore Orioles to ink Vladimir Guerrero…no one should have been surprised.
The surprising part of the whole thing…the Orioles have had, quietly, a fantastic off season.
Seriously…an off season like the one that had makes the paltry efforts of division foes, the New York Yankees, look comical.
Now, the beleaguered O’s won’t compete …

Andy Pettitte Calls it Quits…Cooperstown Next?
General Baseball | 4 Feb 2011

In a word.  No.
But, first…let’s digress.
On Thursday, came word that New York Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte was going to end all the “is he coming back” or “isn’t he coming back” speculation and…not come back.
This…from the New York Post:
Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte will announce his retirement at a press conference Friday morning at Yankee Stadium, ending a storied career and leaving a gaping hole in the 2011 team.
Pettitte called Yankees …

Jermaine Dye Likely Done

Jermaine Dye Likely Done
General Baseball | 3 Feb 2011

Perhaps sitting out the entire 2010 season wasn’t such a good idea.
With 325 career home runs to his credit…outfielder Jermaine Dye looks to be done. Ken Rosenthal over at FOXSports.com has reported that the 36-year-old Dye is likely to retire.
The free agent outfielder has been contacted by the Rays, Rockies and Phillies, and has probably been offered a minor league contract or two, but he wants a guaranteed roster spot …

Cursed! Wrigley Field Falls Victim to the Snowpocalypse
General Baseball | 2 Feb 2011

Stormageddon.
Snotorious B.I.G.
Snowprah.
Whatever you call the blizzard that is paralyzing the Midwest, I am pretty sure that it doesn’t compare to the expletives being thrown around by the Chicago Cubs brass when they found out that part of Wrigley Field’s roof was ripped off Tuesday night.
Sure, it wasn’t as dramatic as what happened to the Metrodome a couple of months ago…but it is still pretty surreal.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times:
Streets near …

Happy (Belated) Birthday Nolan Ryan!

Happy (Belated) Birthday Nolan Ryan!
General Baseball | 1 Feb 2011

Better late than never, right?
On my desk I have a Baseball Hall of Fame page-a-day calendar.  It is full of pictures, trivia and what not.  Today (January 31) featured a quiz…which one of these Hall of Famers does NOT celebrate a birthday today?
Ernie Banks, Jackie Robinson, Hank Aaron or Nolan Ryan?
I knew the answer right away…Hank Aaron.
Why?
My friend Payman (you might recognize Payman from THIS) ALSO sprung from his …

If you’re like me…you spent a lot of time in front of the TV this weekend.  No, not watching one of the many All-Star Games (NFL, NHL, Lakers vs. Celtics)…discovering that nearly the entire run of “Quantum Leap” is available via Netflix Instant.
Thankfully…Tony Arnoldine is around to let us know what we missed.
The highlight of the week that was in the world of baseball was clearly Brian Wilson’s appearance on George …

In 1989, the movie “Major League” immortalized the entrance of fictional Cleveland Indians closer…Ricky Vaughn.
Now…I don’t bring up “Wild Thing” to segue sloppily to some hackneyed post on how Charlie Sheen is a screw up.  That piece is a dime a dozen and you can hit up the Googles if you want to follow that death spiral.
I bring up “Wild Thing” to segue sloppily to something Washington Nationals pitcher Collin Balester …

Looks like our friend Gar Ryness (aka “Batting Stance Guy”) has some competition.  Check out this video of some random two-year-old at a Lehigh Valley IronPigs game imitating Philadelphia Phillies slugger Ryan Howard.
Not too shabby…he’s even got the former MVP’s batting glove tic down!
A proverbial tip o’ the hat to CrossingBroad.com for finding this gem.

General Baseball | 25 Jan 2011

I’m told there’s probably nothing to it (and let’s be honest, there probably isn’t)…but Gary Sheffield has been working out in St. Petersburg, Florida with the Seoul Nexen Heroes of the Korean Baseball Organization.
Again, there’s probably nothing to it.  I mean, Sheffield is “99.9%” retired, right?
But let’s imagine for a second that there is something to the 42-year-old taking some spring training cuts with the Heroes…the slugger would be, by far, the …

Billy Wagner Files Retirement Papers…Cooperstown Next?
General Baseball | 23 Jan 2011

Following a 2009 season where he saw himself, for the first time, not a closer, Billy Wagner dropped the following quote…“I don’t plan on talking to nobody, I’ve got nothing else to (accomplish).”
Close to two months later…he inked a one-year deal with the Atlanta Braves and had, arguably, one of the best seasons of his 16-year career.
This past Thursday, the 39-year-old lefty officially filed his retirement papers…but will we see …

Let’s not kid ourselves, the American League East has dominated the headlines this offseason.
Sure, sure…the Cliff Lee-to-the-Philadelphia Phillies story is a big one, but the AL East saw the Boston Red Sox make some serious upgrades, the Tampa Bay Rays enlisted some former Sox and the New York Yankees piece together last decade’s best fantasy league team.
Hell…even the Baltimore Orioles look to be getting into the mix by potentially taking …
